With Term 4 well under way, there has been lots to celebrate at the College this term. The Year 12’s final days were celebrated in style, starting with a celebratory breakfast with parents and carers. The Home Economics staff and hospitality students did an amazing job preparing and serving the food. This was followed by our Year 12 assembly, which was a great celebration of these wonderful students. It was fantastic to see so many parents this year join us for the final assembly, supporting their children and the College.
On Thursday, 24 October 2024 we celebrated our Graduation Ceremony at Kingsway Christian College, and it was a fantastic evening. It is always a very proud and rewarding moment for me when I get to congratulate and celebrate the success of each and every student who walks across the stage. Seeing the excitement and pride on their faces as they walk towards me is very special. Having a joint event with Belridge Secondary Education Support Centre is always a heart-warming moment. I love watching our students clap, cheer and celebrate the success of these students, knowing the difficulty they have overcome to achieve these goals.
On Friday, 25 October 2024 we celebrated World Teachers Day. As part of the celebrations, the students wrote thank-you notes to their chosen teachers. We celebrated the day with cupcakes and coffee in the staffroom, brewed by our newly barista trained staff.
Our Year 6 half-day Transition Program, involving students from our local intake primary schools have also started this term. These have been a great success so far, with lots of happy faces seen around the school as they prepare for their move up to high school. A big thank you to Rebecca Edmonds, Chadd Richardson and Andrew Wright for their efforts with the program. We look forward to welcoming them all to the Belridge Secondary College family next year.
On the sporting front, I am delighted to inform you that we won our division at the Interschool Athletics Carnival. Our Netball students also cleaned up at the West Coast Fever Cup competition. Our Cricket Academy held its annual Year 9 camp, and our Outdoor Education students completed their camp to Moore River.
This term we also celebrated our Academic Enrichment Program Showcase. Wow! What a buzz there was in that room. Each student bursting with enthusiasm to share their project with our staff and the many visitors that attended. A huge thank you to Ms Green and the AEP Team for organising the event and giving up your time to support our students.
On Monday, 4 November 2024 we held our annual Open Board Meeting. The night showcased the amazing work we have undertaken at the College in the last 12 months and shared our successes in the fields of STEM, ATAR, Follow the Dream, and AEP as well as highlighting the importance of trips such as the Canberra Tour. We also shared with the community the progress on delivering our promise of updates to the Library, a new Science Lab and a new STEM build that will be ready for the start of the 2025 school year.
This term we have also held our Dance and Fashion Showcase – amazing! Completed Workplace Learning (Years 11 and 12), undertook OLNA and held exams. The College also hosted the First Lego League Competition. Walking away with 3rd place and winners of the Peer Award and Best Coach was a great achievement.
To finish, I would just like to remind the community that we will be running our Christmas Hamper Appeal again this term. Last year we were able to provide over 30 hampers to local families in need. I know this made a huge difference to our families, as well as providing our students with the opportunity to volunteer and help others. There is a box in the front office available for physical donations. Items can be dropped off between 8am and 4pm. Financial donations are also accepted, please contact the front office to arrange this. Please give what you can and support local families who are doing it tough this festive season.

School Board - November Report
It was great to see a full room at our Open Board Meeting, held on Monday, 4 November 2024. The Open Board Meeting provides the College a great opportunity to let parents of current and potential future students to see what's happening now and in the future.
We heard reports from the Principal, Deputies and the highlight for me, the vignettes of the wonderful students of Belridge Secondary College. From the trip to Canberra, the Lego and Hydrogen Car competition and the aspirational career opportunities some of our ATAR students are striving for, the young women and men of Belridge Secondary College were articulate and engaging.
We were also able to highlight the 'Student Led' projects, and Board members are looking forward to working with our Student Council in bringing their projects to life.
If you haven't been to an Open Board Meeting - keep an eye out for the notice for 2025 - we'd love to see you there.
Finally, I would like to acknowledge and thank Ms Cheryl and Mrs Corless and the Year 11 Hospitality students for catering for this event - all of which was well received by all who attended.

2025 Year 7 Enrolments
Half-Day Transitions
During Weeks 4 and 5, we welcomed Year 6 students enrolled at Belridge for 2025 to our transition days at the College. Each primary school had a day where they attended. They were picked up from their primary school and returned by bus, which was a fun experience for all students. Whilst at the College students were introduced to the Student Services team, completed team-based activities and completed some academic testing. All students were beautifully behaved and demonstrated exceptional manners and represented their primary schools in a positive and responsible manner. A special thank you needs to go to Mr Richardson and Ms Edmonds for organising and running events, our Year 9 Peer Mentors and our wonderful Education Assistants for their very hands-on support in helping out and ensuring that the days ran smoothly.
Full-Day Transition
This is scheduled for Tuesday, 3 December 2024. The day is designed to familiarise the Year 6 students and parents with the Administration staff, facilities, layout, and routine of Belridge Secondary College. Students will be placed in groups and given a full day's timetable. Students will experience a range of classes in our Learning Areas including the Arts, Design and Technology, Information Technology, Science and Home Economics.
We continue to prepare for welcoming the next cohort of Year 7’s in 2025. If you currently have a child in Year 6 who attends a primary school in our local intake area, and you wish for them to attend Belridge Secondary College next year, please complete and submit an enrolment form as soon as possible. These can be collected from one of our local intake primary schools or our College reception.
Uniform
As the weather begins to warm up, can I please encourage you to remind yourself and your child of our College uniform policy. Our College uniform is a visible representation of the standards expected of students, and it plays an important role in promoting a positive image of the College. It also creates a sense of identity and pride among the students and wider school community, and helps students learn the importance of appropriate presentation.
OLNA
Well done to all Year 10 students who completed OLNA in Term 4. These results will be available early in 2025 and will be communicated to students and families.
A Message from Transperth
This is a reminder that if you are using Transperth buses or trains to get to or from school, you must tag on and off with your SmartRider. Primary and secondary students are entitled to free travel on all Transperth services from Monday to Friday, from the first to the last school day of the year. Student SmartRiders are issued with zero balance. You don't need to add any value on your SmartRider to receive the free travel, however SmartRiders must not have a negative balance.
Students will be charged a concession fare based on the zones travelled on weekends and during the summer school holidays.
Students must tag on and off each journey to receive the free travel or they will receive a default fare. If their SmartRider goes into a negative balance as a result, they will not have access to free travel.
With the student fare comes a little responsibility – you should stand for adults, especially those with special needs such as seniors, people with disabilities and pregnant women.
Please visit the following websites for further information:

Year 12 students
As we say farewell to our Year 12 students, I would like to wish them all the very best for their future endeavours. I have thoroughly enjoyed working with you this year and hope you keep us informed of your successes. I would also like to extend a huge congratulations to all our award winners at the recent Graduation ceremony. Your achievements not only make your family proud, but also the staff at our College.
ASPIRE Breakfast
Last term, we were very fortunate to have a past student, Sinead Du Toit, come and present to our Year 12 ATAR students. Sinead graduated from Belridge Secondary College in 2019 and has since gone on to study her Masters in Sports Science and is working with the U18 England Rugby team. Sinead spoke about what it takes to be successful and gave tips to our students about making the most of your time at school. We sincerely thank Sinead for giving up her time to speak with our ATAR Students.
Year 11 students
We are approaching the end of the year for our Year 11 students. There are still some requirements before students are able to leave. The final day of classes is Friday November 8, however, please see below for details of requirements:
General/VET students
Only students who have completed all required work will finish on this date. Students with work outstanding will be required to come to school in Week 6 until all required work is complete. These students will work with me in the library. Note: Attendance for these students is compulsory.
ATAR students
Exams commence Monday, 11 November 2024. Students only need to attend school for their exam times and be in full school uniform. ATAR students then return to school on Monday and Tuesday of Week 8 (after exams) and only attend their ATAR classes. This will be to:
- Receive your exam marks.
- Get valuable feedback.
- Check if your marks are correct.
- Other periods on these days will be in the Library if between ATAR classes.

Year 10 Students
It is great to see so many Year 10 students starting to work out their future plans. With students actively seeking career and study opportunities, it shows there is a real desire to commence the next phase of their lives. Key decisions being made:
- Selecting an ATAR pathway for direct access into University
- Exploring external VET Courses for TAFE or further study options
- Apprenticeships or Traineeships for next year, where they will get paid to study
Meetings are held regularly with students to help establish a successful pathway. Further information can be found by visiting the Careers Hub at school or seeing Mr Cheeseman to discuss subjects and pathways.
Important!
If students are not planning on returning to Belridge Secondary College in 2025, it is vital families contact the school to inform us of this. This may require some documentation to be completed and prevent billing the students. This also assists us in planning classes for next year. Please notify us if your child is either:
- Changing schools.
- Going to TAFE
- Starting full-time employment
- Studying elsewhere
We thank you in advance.

Book Week 2024
Belridge Secondary College celebrated Book Week a little later this year to give us the opportunity to shine the spotlight on the positive impact that literature can have on us all. Some of our most avid readers and aspiring creative writers were invited to an exclusive “Meet the Author” opportunity with acclaimed Western Australian author, Kate McCaffrey. Our aspiring writers learned about the highs and lows of being a writer and were given a rare opportunity to ask Kate questions about her writing process. We thank Kate for her generosity in sharing her time and expertise with BSC students.
We also hosted some events to help the College staff discover some new authors and books. A Book Swap outside the library gave everyone an opportunity to trade out old books for new stories and authors, whilst the Blind Date with a Book for staff gave new meaning to the phrase, “Don’t Judge a Book by its Cover”. Our Dress As Your Favourite Character day, and photo booth was a great success, with staff and students enjoying the opportunity to represent their literary heroes (or villains!), Form quizzes, colouring and Ms Prendergast’s “tearable pun” activities rounded off the week. Mrs Zarrop also ran a “Recreate a Book Cover” in her classes, with some amazing results.
Winners of Book Week events were:

Music Showcase & Art Exhibition
This September we saw our music students put on an incredible show comprised of an eclectic mix of genres and instrumental performances. Our first ever daytime Matinee performance was well received by over one hundred visiting Year 5’s, who particularly enjoyed the percussion items. The evening concert was a massive success, we had such great support from families and audience members that our auditorium was near capacity. From first-time performers, who had only been learning for a couple of months, to veterans who have been with the program since Year 7 - all students involved performed marvellously and did themselves and the school proud. We have some extremely talented students.
Our talented Visual and Media Art students’ work adorned the walls of the Performing Arts Centre, displaying a variety of themes and mediums. From colourful creations, detailed print work, photography, mixed media, perspective and still life studies their wonderful work embellished every inch our PAC building walls.
We had upper school Visual Art and Fashion students whose work had been exhibited in this year’s Young Originals Exhibition, held at Edith Cowan University. Our inspired surrealist work by Kallie Hickman (Year 12) was selected for the Mindscape exhibition which was organised by Western Australian Society of Arts, held at Westralia Square Building, St George's Terrace, Perth last month. It was an honour to display their work and a huge congratulation on their dedication of time and effort in producing such fine work.
https://youngoriginals.com.au/2024/
A special ‘shout out’ to Dashlen Beasley for not only being involved in two of the musical performances but for his efforts all day as Stage Manager.
Such events take a lot of time and effort from a team of people to be successful. I offer sincere thanks to the following staff for their support and work, as this event would not have been possible without them. It is a pleasure and privilege to work with such a dedicated group of professionals.
Annemarie Verschoor - Coordinating with primary schools for the matinee, Front of House and general support, Noelene Hales - Backstage Manager, Jodie Grieve - Event Photographer and filming, Kristie Wintle and Coralie Heberley - Front of House
Liam Cunning and Jordan - Sound and Lighting Technicians
Claudia Muller, Harrison Garvey, Krystal Brine, Kylie Walpole, Stuart Rhine-Davis and Yoann Dejioanni - Instrumental teachers from IMSS who work each week with our students to develop their skills. Many of them were also present on the night to play with, direct or otherwise support our students.
Thank you also to the staff that came to watch the performances. Your support of our students is greatly appreciated.

Dance and Fashion Concert
Our sell-out 2024 Fashion and Dance Concert saw a showcase that combined the tremendous talents, fun and energy of all our Dance and Fashion students into one spectacular event. Our unstoppable and highly talented dancers performed a mix of lyrical, acro, hip hop, jazz and ensemble pieces along to sensational music tracks and with a dazzling light show. Our Fashion students walked the catwalk in their bespoke creations loaded with intricate details and each piece designed in response to set themes.
Our Dance Company performed their award-winning performances, a lyrical jazz piece titled ‘Bad’, a lyrical piece titled ‘Glimpses of Us’, and a self-choregraphed solo performance by Nicole Baird. These dances were performed earlier this year at both the Dance Life Unite Competition and Elite Eisteddfod Competition.
Our dancers, both Dance Company and General course students, performed pieces that were choregraphed responses to themes of love, heartbreak, humour and mystery. This action packed night saw a hard hitting, exhilarating hip hop piece finale where all our students celebrated together on stage.
Our Year 8 Fashion students undertook an exciting challenge of Paper Couture. Working in small groups, they explored techniques such as papier-mâché, collage, weaving, coiling, and draping, transforming paper into fabric-like creations.
Our Year 9 and 10 Fashion class embraced the opportunity to delve into issues of ‘injustice’, and ideas that ignited their passion. Stunning creations that addressed important topics were brought to life with their technical skills in their meticulously crafted garments. Each piece utilised embroidery, beading, stencilling, appliqué, and a variety of fabric manipulation techniques to emphasise their messages.
Our Student Council member and technical whizz-kid, Dashlen Beasley, did a fine job as the MC of the evening also.
The event was a testament of the hard work, resilience, creativity, and determination demonstrated by our students to bring their vision to life. Students should be incredibly proud of their dedication and energy they delivered at the all-day rehearsal and evening show. We are all extremely proud of your efforts, professionalism and performance.
These experiences are only possible with the input of many helping hands and the support of their families.
Finally, special thanks to the following people who make this event possible:

Year 7 AEP - Perth Zoo – Sunset Safari
On Friday, 13 September 2024, the Year 7 AEP Science students travelled to Perth Zoo for a Sunset Safari. After starting with an animal encounter, the students broke away into three groups to explore the zoo, identifying their favourite biomes and the animals within them. Students investigated animal adaptations and predators.
After a short break students analysed animal enrichment tools/activities used by the zookeepers, including Elephant Artworks and prepared an enrichment activity for the Cape Porcupine. Students were fully engaged in The Usual Suspects murder mystery game, studying a range of animal clues from a real-life event in an African national park. In our final activity, a night walk through the African Savannah, students dropped off their efforts to the Cape Porcupine, before a stop to the lion enclosure, where the male lion came to the glass and roared, making us all a little scared! A fantastic and memorable evening.

Lego League Challenge: Regionals
Belridge recently hosted the Beldon Regional Qualifier FIRST Lego League Challenge, a STEM competition where groups of students program a Lego robot to complete missions, as well as conducting a research task. This year’s theme, Submerged, focused on the underwater scene, with the missions relating to researching and exploring the ocean. From protecting coral reefs and exploring shipwrecks, to feeding krill to a whale, our two teams, Belridge Buoys and Grls have attended after school sessions over the past couple of months to build and code their robot to complete these missions. They were also tasked with a research project, thinking of a way to help those who research the ocean.
This all led to the competition day, of which Belridge Secondary College hosted for the first time. Nine teams competed throughout the day, trying their best to score the highest they could. The winning team was Wizards n Lizards from Madeley Primary School. The Grls, displaying the ‘Core Values’ of teamwork, inclusiveness and having fun throughout the day won the Peer Award. The Coaches Award went to Ms Edmonds, chosen based on team nominations, acknowledging her commitment and efforts in supporting the teams throughout the season and helping to make this day possible. Unfortunately, our College teams did not make it to the next round, but we wish the two teams that did, Robosapiens and Wizards n Lizards all the best at next qualifier, to be held at Curtin University later this term.
Thank You!
To Mr Chen and Ms Edmonds, for organising, facilitating, and running this event and to all the volunteers from Curtin University, Deloitte and Matt Kersey who assisted with the robot game and judging throughout the day. Mr O’Neil who emceed the event and kept the tunes going throughout the day. Schools who joined us in this regional competition; Connolly Primary School, Aveley Secondary College, St Emilie’s Primary School, Madeley Primary School and Dandaragan Primary School. Finally, the staff who assisted in the lead up to and on the day, as well as those who made room changes and accommodations for this fantastic event to take place.

Positive Incentive Program:
Perth Wildcats Coaching Clinic
A number of our keen basketball players from Belridge Secondary College were put through their paces on Wednesday, 30 October 2024 when they were visited by two players from the Perth Wildcats. Students made their way to the gym where Belridge Secondary College teacher Mr Brinkworth (a former State Basketball League player and coach) ensured they were warmed up and ready before Mr O’Neil arrived with the special guests.
Two of the Wildcats best players, Tai Webster and Dylan Windler, guided the students through some basketball drills and fun activities while one of our Belridge Beats students, Dashlen Beasley, kept the energy going with some background music. Toward the end of the session the visiting players spent time taking photos with the keen Wildcats fans.
Thank you to the players for giving up their time and to the Perth Wildcats for providing our students with such a fantastic opportunity.

Year 11 Geography ATAR
Optus Stadium excursion
On Wednesday, 16 October 2024 the Year 11 ATAR Geographers travelled to the Optus Stadium to investigate the impacts of football, an element of culture. The students toured the stadium learning about the building and operation, visited the media centre and player changing rooms. We then met Hannah Galloway, landscape architect of the Stadium and Chevron Parklands, investigating the rehabilitation and development of the site from a former sewage treatment plant and rubbish tip to a place for general public to enjoy. Developed with input from the Whadjuk community, the parklands are inspired by the six Noongar seasons, featuring ten permanent 3D artworks by WA Noongar artists. The site was designed to be specific to the geographical concept of place, unique to this part of the world and our state’s stadium.

Year 9 ‘Let’s Get Technical’ IT Career Taster
Friday, 25 October
A group of Year 9 Belridge students were recently involved in the Information Technology (IT) based ‘Let’s Get Technical’ Career Taster at North Metropolitan TAFE’s East Perth campus. Students and the College’s Career Practitioner, Mr Mouritz, travelled by bus to East Perth for the excursion. The excursion was part of the Year 9 Career Taster Program, designed to provide students with opportunities to explore careers and pathways of interest. All attendees were excited to attend TAFE for the day and experience what life as a TAFE student, studying an Information Technologies course, would be like. All students in attendance are currently studying Integrated Technologies and they enjoyed the opportunity to explore courses and careers relating to the IT field. During the event students had the opportunity to program a robotic device, with the use of a Micro bit program. All attendees really enjoyed programming their robot to race around a racecourse. They also got to explore the world of Cyber Security and learnt the basics of ethical hacking, by completing several activities and educational games. For the final session of the day students had the opportunity to use a separate Micro bit program to complete some computer coding activities using Python programming language. It was great to see students identify the types of IT activities they enjoy the most, so that they could begin to put plans in place for their future careers. Several students plan on applying for a one day a week Vocational Education and Training Delivered to Secondary Students (VETDSS) course next year. Students were informed of the Integrated Technology, Robotics and Cyber Security certificates they can complete at TAFE, as a part their Senior School studies, in Year 11 and 12.

Career Taster: Healthcare Sector
A group of Year 10 and 11 students took the opportunity to complete a healthcare specific career taster at the Australian Medical Association (AMA) in Joondalup on Monday, 16 September 2024. Students were put through healthcare specific stretches, how to support patients with visual impairments, and got practice using state of the art equipment in taking and recording a patient’s ‘vitals’. These students have identified healthcare as a potential career pathway and were given useful and current information on healthcare opportunities and pathways by AMA staff. Well done to these students who behaved professionally and were able to demonstrate a natural ‘bedside manner’ when completing activities.

ABCN: ‘Find Your Purpose’
On Thursday, 17 October 2024 the College’s Program Coordinator: Senior School Pathways, Adam Smith and Career Practitioner, Ashley Mouritz had the pleasure of supervising a group of Year 9 and 10 students during an Australian Business Community Networking (ABCN) coordinated excursion to Optus located in the CBD, for the ‘Find Your Purpose’ event. The program helps students better understand themselves, their values, and their ambitions for life. Working with Optus mentors, students gained a deeper understanding of what’s important to them, and how they can use their strengths to design a life that they will love.
Feedback received from the event was excellent, showing that students’ career development and decision making was positively impacted by being involved in the day.
Program Feedback
The following are summarised student response results demonstrating the percentage improvement from the program's start to the end. (Note: the rating scale is a 1 to 7 measure with 1 being the lowest and 7 being the highest. i.e. 5 to 7 is agreed to agree strongly). These results demonstrate that the students gained immensely from the program.

Moore River & Lancelin Camps:
An Unforgettable Adventure!
For two action-packed weeks in October, our Year 11 Outdoor Education students embarked on TWO epic camps! Divided into two groups, they soaked up the sun, surf, and thrill of the great outdoors.
Moore River Magic
We arrived at Guilderton and set off on an adventure-fuelled day of fishing and canoeing on the serene Moore River. As the sun dipped, we strolled along the beach, feeling the salty breeze, and refuelled with a hearty feast.

Lancelin Surf Frenzy
Next stop: Lancelin, where Surfing WA helped us catch some gnarly waves! The first camp faced a whopping 4-metre swell, perfect for mastering white water skills. The second camp brought offshore winds and coveted green waves – and yes, our students rode them like pros! Witnessing their beaming smiles and infectious laughter as they broke free from daily routines was pure gold.
A Huge thanks to our awesome Year 11's for two unforgettable camps!

Netball - Westcoast Fever Cup
On Wednesday, 23 October 2024, Belridge Netball Academy travelled to Gold Netball Centre to compete in the West Coast Fever Specialist Schools Cup. This is the first time we have competed in this Carnival, between all the specialist Netball Schools, so the competition is extremely high.
Year 9 Belridge Netball Academy students in action!
Eight teams participated from Years 7 to 10, with each year group having two teams. The Year 7, 8 and 9 groups had 3 divisions for each year group, where we had one team in two of these. The Year 10’s had just one division, hence both of our teams being in the same division. All teams played a minimum of four games over the day, with the Year 10’s playing seven in total! Each team had at least one win with most teams having multiple wins.
The day wrapped up with some fantastic results, and students should be extremely proud of where our Academy is currently placed and where we are headed for the future.

Belridge Netball Academy walked away with three West Coast Fever Specialist Cup awards for Years 7, 8 and 10, which is a huge achievement.
Some of the schools we played against and defeated were Warwick SHS, Darling Range Sports College, Atwell, Harrisdale, Governor Stirling and Aranmore.
The students in our Netball Academy displayed not only excellent skills and sportsmanship over the day, but also umpired professionally when asked. This is a huge help and lends itself to the day to running as smoothly as it did.
Thank you to everyone involved and bring on the 2025 Cup!
