Deputy Principal - Years 7, 8 and 9
I am replacing Mrs Hall as Middle School Deputy Principal for the rest of the year while she focuses on planning timetables and staffing for 2026.
In this role, I work closely with our three Heads of Student Services to support students in achieving their goals and enjoying respectful relationships with their peers and with their teachers. Respect has become a major issue for Australian schools, and it is one of our four core values, along with Commitment, Resilience and Curiosity. Helping your sons and daughters to understand what is meant by the word ‘respect’ can be as simple as treating people as you would like to be treated.
The State School Teachers Union of WA is currently running a campaign on respect and asking parents to engage with teachers respectfully. Your kids are watching and learning from you.
- Respect the fact that teachers are not available outside working hours.
- Respect teachers on Facebook, WhatsApp groups and other social media channels.
- Respect teachers in front of your children.
Parent Interviews and School Reports
As we approach the end of term 2, student reports will be emailed to parents on Thursday 3 July.
On the same day, bookings for parent-teacher interviews, scheduled for Wednesday 23 July from 1.30pm to 6.30pm will open. These interviews will take place early in term 3. We encourage parents to take advantage of the extended time made available for parent interviews. Students will have an early school closure on the day, and Transperth school special buses have been rescheduled to collect students at 12:40 pm, after the end of period 3. Please be aware of this change if you collect your sons or daughters from the college.
NAPLAN (National Assessment Program Literacy and Numeracy) and OLNA (Online Literacy and Numeracy Assessment)
As we are all aware, NAPLAN and OLNA are external assessments set for all WA Schools, addressing the application of literacy and numeracy skills in reading, numeracy and writing. NAPLAN results for Years 7 and 9 have now been received by the college, and individual student reports will be available from early in term 3.
NAPLAN results in Year 9 are linked to OLNA, with students achieving scores placing them in the exceeding and high strong categories pre-qualifying for OLNA, by meeting the required standards.
Important: Year 7 Immunisations
A WA Health team will visit Belridge Secondary College from 4 to 5 August 2025 to provide Year 7 students with free, routine and recommended vaccinations. To ensure your child receives their vaccinations, please complete the online consent form now at health.wa.gov.au/adolescentconsent.
Year 7’s will be vaccinated against human papillomavirus (HPV) and diphtheria, tetanus and pertussis (whooping cough) (dTpa).
To find out why vaccination is important to protect your child against these serious but easily preventable diseases, visit https://www.health.wa.gov.au/Articles/A_E/Adolescent-immunisation
Lightning Carnivals
The Year 9 lightning carnival was held recently, with our netball, football, basketball and soccer teams competing strongly and finishing first in netball and AFL competitions. The Year 8 lightning carnival was held on Friday 27 July, and the Year 7 lightning carnival early in term 3, on Thursday 31 July.
Term 3 sees us move from the Nyoongar season of Makuru, season of fertility the coldest and wettest of the year, into Djilba (August, September), the season of conception, with a mixture of wet days and increasing number of pleasant warm days and the bloom of many yellow wildflowers.
Wishing all families a safe and enjoyable upcoming holiday break!
