1st INNINGS

After losing the toss and being selected to bowl, our First XI Team entered the game as under dogs (with Kent Street having beaten us twice in the round games) with Belridge’s bowlers delivering under pressure.  Joshua Hendry (Year 12) led the charge, taking 3 wickets for just 25 runs in 10 overs, including an incredible stumping from Rowan George (Year 12) to secure one of the key wickets of the Kent Street batting line up. Jaxon Goodchild (Year 12) (2/16 off 10) provided outstanding economy and control, while Shaan Darji (Year 10) (2/34 off 10) and Patrick Oulton (Year 12) (1/33 off 7) played crucial roles in restricting Kent Street’s total to 172 off their full 50 overs.

2nd INNINGS
Chasing 173 for victory, Belridge approached their innings with composure. Joshua Hendry was the standout performer again, anchoring the chase with a brilliant and composed 70 runs*, at no stage panicking and holding the innings together. Kieran Gray remained unbeaten on 25 runs* in a 38-run partnership, providing some fire power and clean hitting in the final overs to get the team over the line. Rowan George (14 runs) again playing a key role in building the innings through the middle overs combining with Joshua for a steadying 36 run partnership.

Kent Street’s bowlers tried to apply pressure, but Belridge sealed the win in 45.3 overs, finishing at 175/8.

A HISTORIC VICTORY!

Joshua Hendry was deservingly awarded the Player of the Final Award with bowling figures of 3/25 and a game winning innings of 70 not out in which he showed maturity beyond his age.

This sensational win is a testament to the team’s resilience, skill, and sportsmanship. Belridge’s players showed outstanding discipline in both batting and bowling, ensuring their place among the best school cricket teams in Western Australia.

Congratulations to the players, coaches, and supporters for this fantastic achievement!

Principal’s Cup Tips Off with a Thriller on the Court

The battle for the Principal’s Cup has officially begun, and what a way to start - with a fiercely competitive basketball showdown between the staff and the Year 12 students. As the first of five events in this prestigious series, there was more than just bragging rights on the line.

The match opened with the staff taking a narrow lead, using experience and court smarts to edge ahead in the early stages. Crisp passing and calm decision-making saw them outpace the students… temporarily.

But what the Year 12’s lacked in experience, they more than made up for in fitness and firepower. Led by Patty ‘The Postman’ Oulton - who, true to his nickname, always delivers - the students launched a spirited comeback with a run of back-to-back buckets that electrified the crowd and turned the game on its head.

Staff heavyweights Mr ‘Dunkin’ Dawkins and Mr ‘Splash’ Ogilvie put in a valiant defensive effort to halt the surge, but the tide had turned.

The final score: Year 12’s 12 – Staff 7

The win gives the students an early 1–0 lead in the race for the Principal’s Cup and sets the stage for a must-win netball clash in Event 2 if the staff are to square the series.

A big thank you to all who played, cheered, and contributed to the spirit of the event. It was competitive, fun, and a fantastic display of house pride and school spirit.

We’ll see you on the netball court for the next instalment of this epic five-part series!

House Cricket Heats Up in Second Year of
‘Last Man Standing’

Our much-anticipated Last Man Standing House Cricket Competition returned for its second year - bigger, better, and even more competitive. With eight teams representing students across Years 7 to 12, including a fearless staff team, the stage was set for an action-packed elimination tournament where every ball mattered.

The tournament kicked off with high energy and high stakes. Defending champions, the Year 10 Manta Rays, were surprisingly knocked out early, opening the door for a new titleholder and immediately raising the intensity of the competition.

The semi-finals delivered on all fronts. In a thrilling all-Manta Ray showdown, the Year 9 Team upset the experienced Year 12's, showing composure beyond their years. The second semi-final saw the Year 12 Sharks take on the Staff Team. Despite a solid showing from the Sharks, the Staff’s cool heads and crafty gameplay saw them through to the grand final.

And what a grand final it was.

The Year 9 Manta Rays brought youthful energy and strong form into their clash with the Staff Team, pushing them to the limit. The match went right down to the final balls, with the Staff Team emerging victorious in a narrow but well-earned win. Credit to the Year 9's for their grit and sportsmanship - this was school cricket at its best.

A huge congratulations to all participants. Your attitude, effort, and house pride were on full display throughout the event. Whether you batted, bowled, fielded, or cheered from the sidelines, you made this competition one to remember.

We now look forward to our next big house event - House Basketball. Get your teams ready! Thanks again to everyone involved.

West Coast Fever Player Visit – Sunday Aryang

On Thursday, 22 May 2025 the Year 8 Netball Academy class were lucky enough to have Sunday Aryang from the West Coast Fever come and speak with them. Sunday not only plays for the West Coast Fever, but she also represents our country, playing for the Australian Diamonds.

Sunday spoke to the students about her journey as an athlete and the hard work required to get to the level she is currently at. She also spoke about the Netball pathway she took and the challenges she faced along the way.

The students listened to every word she said intently and were extremely interested in what she had to say. At the end of her presentation, the students were given the opportunity to ask any questions they had and they did not hold back!  Some students asked multiple questions, which showed their enthusiasm for what she had to say.

Finally, students were able to get their merchandise signed and all left with a signed poster of the West Coast Fever.

We thank Sunday for giving up her time to come and see us.  A wonderful representation for our Netball Academy, all the girls were amazing during Sunday’s presentation.

Year 10 Netball Lightning Carnival

On Wednesday, 13 May 2025 the Year 10 cohort elected a sport to represent the school in the sports Lightning Carnival.  I was lucky enough to manage the Netball Girls with the assistance of five Year 9 Netball Academy students who helped in making the day a fantastic event; Holly Atkinson, Starlet Moreno, Neve O’Sullivan, Raquel Richards and Ryleigh Richardson.

We were blessed with great conditions, sunny, warm and no wind.  Students performed exceptionally well on court, showcasing skill, teamwork, enjoyment and sportsmanship. The overall behaviour and atmosphere at the Carnival were positive, making it a memorable experience for everyone. Thank you and well done to all involved.

School Sport WA Senior Interschool Basketball Carnival - 15 May 2025

Belridge Secondary College entered two teams in SSWA Senior Basketball competition this year at Warwick Stadium. The boys opened the carnival with a dominant win over Northshore, while the girls were defeated by Ocean Reef SHS. Both the boys and the girls played St Stephens next with mixed results. The girls tried hard and displayed some great teamwork, but just couldn't keep up with a well drilled St Stephens outfit. Luckily the boys got one back as they dominated the St Stephens boys’ team for most of the game before they mounted a comeback in the final minutes to keep things exciting. We eventually came out on top, but not without a scare.

The girls then came up against Woodvale SC and tried their hardest, but the Basketball Specialist School were on another level when it came to skills and teamwork. The boys then came up against Ashdale SC and it was clear they'd learnt from their last game. In what was probably the most dominant display of the day, Belridge SC took the early lead and were never challenged in a resounding victory.

In their final group game, the boys faced their stiffest competition in Ocean Reef SHS, and while the game started in a back-and-forth battle, the outside shooting of Ocean Reef SHS proved to be the difference as they handed us our first defeat of the day. The girls played in their first final game but went down in a valiant effort, while the boys played Ashdale SC's second team in their first final. This time it was our turn to dominate from behind the arc, and a solid win got the boys up and about for the Grand Final rematch against Ocean Reef SHS. A tactical change saw Belridge SC move to man-on-man defence, which slowed Ocean Reef SHS's scoring, but as fatigue set in, we just couldn't stay with them, going down in the final to some quality opposition.

Our students performed outstandingly on the day. The girls stayed in high spirits despite not scoring a win and showed great sportsmanship and teamwork in all their games. Considering some had never played basketball before, their efforts and positive attitudes were inspiring. The boys came agonisingly close to capping off a great day with a grand final win and should be proud of their efforts.
