Applications Open - Vocational Education and Training delivered in Secondary Students (VETDSS)

Vocational Education and Training Delivered to Secondary Students (VETDSS) is a program delivered to Year 10, 11 and 12 school students as part of the Western Australian Certificate of Education. Students enrolled in a VETDSS course attend either a North or South Metropolitan TAFE campus (subject to course offerings) one or two days per week to complete a Certificate II, III or IV in a field that they see as a potential pathway.

Both North and South Metropolitan TAFE offer a range of courses and pre-apprenticeships as part of the VETDSS programs in the following industries:

  • Sport
  • Creative Industries
  • Healthcare, Beauty and Nursing
  • Construction
  • Automotive
  • Education
  • Engineering and Mining
  • Horticulture
  • Hospitality

The full course lists and application instructions have been published on the respective year group Connect pages. VETDSS courses allow students to:

  • Develop industry-specific skills
  • Gain nationally recognised VET qualifications and units of competency while completing your Western Australian Certificate of Education
  • Develop employability skills
  • Gain an understanding of the world of work, providing you with valuable experience to assist with planning and pursuing your career pathways.

Any student that is interested in applying for one of these great opportunities are required to come and speak with Mr Smith, Program Coordinator – Senior School Pathways, beforehand.

Applications close on Sunday, 1 September 2024.

Applications Open - Construction Training Fund (CTF) Scholarships

The CTF Scholarship program, which is fully funded, is designed for Year 11 and 12 students (commencing 2025), to work towards a Certificate II in Building and Construction while still attending school. Depending on their chosen pathway, selected students will attend a Registered Training Organisation (RTO) one day a week for either one year or two years. Students will:

  • have an opportunity to gain practical work experience.
  • receive job ready advice from industry leaders.
  • receive free uniform and personal protective equipment.

In addition to trade-based options, the CTF also provide Building and Construction Office Support pathways for students interested in a pathway to become an office-based construction professional. As part of the program, CTF will cover the cost of all uniforms and boots and course tuition, and we will offer ongoing mentoring and support, along with other wrap around services.

Details of how to access the CTF application portal have been published on the respective year group Connect pages. Prior to applying directly for the Construction Training Fund Career Scholarship, students are required to come and speak to Mr Smith – Program Coordinator – Senior School Pathways.

Applications close on Saturday,  31 August 2024.

Work Experience opportunities

In addition to the Workplace Learning Program offered by the school, students can also undertake suitable work experience opportunities. In Term 3 we have numerous students completing work experience in the following industries:

  • Real Estate
  • Automotive
  • Computer Assembly and Repair
  • Hair and Beauty
  • Australian Defence Force

Students have identified these industries as potential pathways and are looking forward to developing their work-based skills. We wish the very best of luck during these experiences.

Any student that would like to discuss work experience opportunities are encouraged to come and speak with Mr Smith, Program Coordinator – Senior School Pathways.

A new look for the Belridge Career Hub

The Career Hub has undergone a mini refurb with a fresh lick of paint, a comfy sofa, industry specific posters and installation of a flat screen TV which showcases careers news, career excursion highlights and useful career-based resources. The Pathways Team are very grateful to Kerrie Ward, Manager of Corporate Services, for supporting the developments of this area, which have made it more welcoming and informative for our students.

Students are welcome to come and speak with the Career Pathways Team to seek career advice, guidance, and counselling before school and during recess and lunch times. Appointments can also be made – please see below for details:
