Principal's Message

Sharon Lyon.jpg

After a very short Term 1 comes to an end, I would like to share with you some of the amazing work that has been going on at the College.

On Friday, 15 March 2024 the College had the pleasure of celebrating our wonderful Year 12 students with a magical ball at Frasers in Kings Park. The event was a success from start to finish with all attendees enjoying the occasion. A big thank you to Miss Markovic, Mr Dawkins and Mrs Howard for their efforts in making the night such a special occasion. Also thank you to Miss Grieve for her wonderful photography, Mr O’Neil for providing the soundtracks to the evening and our Business Support Officer, Mrs Carr for all of her efforts with the pre-administration of the event. Also, a massive thank you to the staff who attended on the night, without your support, an event like this cannot happen.

Our annual Belsurf Carnival was held on Friday, 1 March 2024 at Sorrento Beach. This is one of the highlights of the school year for our students and is very unique to Belridge Secondary College. Our students compete in several team and individual events over the course of the day. The Flags event was as popular as ever, along with our Iron Man and Iron Woman. The students had an amazing day and made the most of the lovely weather at the beach, with high participation in all events. Thank you to Mr Bennett and the HPE staff for their efforts in the planning and implementation of the day.

During Week 7 students who had maintained their good standing and met regular attendance targets were treated to a visit from the ice cream van with free ice cream provided to all students who met the criteria. It was great to see the students being rewarded for their positive contributions to the College.

The College held a School Development Day for staff during Week 7 - Focus: Curriculum Development. With a strong focus on student achievement, the investment of time in planning engaging curriculum programs and accurate assessment tasks will support our success in this area.

We have a bumper day and evening coming up on Wednesday, 27 March 2024. The day starts with a College tour for prospective parents and a range of Specialist Program taster sessions for students in Years 4-6 looking to find out more about our amazing programs.  Our Parent/Teacher Interviews and BBQ with interim reports for Years 7,11 and 12 will take place from 3.30pm to 6.30 pm. There is also an option to attend a Twilight Tour and our Enrolment Information Evening at 6.00pm.  A free sausage sizzle is available from 3.30pm to 5.30 pm for all who attend (subject to availability).

If you are yet to register for any of our enrolment events or tours (morning or twilight), Student Course Tasters or our Enrolment Information Night, see details via the link with information on how to register - HERE

NAPLAN Online has also concluded this term for Years 7 and 9. Students coped well with the assessments and the changes in the structure of the school day. Results will be out during Term 3.

We also held our inaugrual Last Man Standing House Competition this term “Backyard Cricket Style”. It was great to see the collegiality of the staff and students and some excellent displays of sportsmanship. This is one example of how we are trying to push our House system, ready for some bigger changes in 2025.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Belridge community for their support this term and thank the Belridge staff for their ongoing efforts.

I hope you all have a very enjoyable Easter break and get to spend some quality time with family and friends.
