Deputy Principal - Years 7, 8 and 9

I wish to welcome all the new students and their parents/caregivers to the Belridge Secondary College community. Also, welcome back all our families that are already part of the Belridge community.  I have been impressed by how quickly all students have settled into their new timetables, not letting the hot weather deter them from arriving at school on time each day in the correct uniform. Term 1 this year is only nine weeks, so please make sure you keep up to date with Connect and Compass notifications, as a lot is going on!

Active parent/caregiver involvement is paramount to the educational achievement and success of the student.  I look forward to establishing and maintaining strong and productive working relationships with all our new families to help achieve positive and rewarding outcomes for your children.

Year 7 and Year 9 NAPLAN

This year, NAPLAN will run from Wednesday, 13 March 2024 and finish on Monday, 25 March 2024. NAPLAN assesses the literacy and numeracy skills that students are learning through the school curriculum and allows parents/carergivers to see how their child is progressing against national standards and over time. Our teachers will ensure students are familiar with the types of questions in the tests and will provide appropriate support and guidance. In school, students will also complete some practice tests, as this is useful to help students prepare, understand and be comfortable with the format of the tests. You can support your child by reassuring them that NAPLAN is a part of their school program and reminding them to simply do their best.

NAPLAN supports inclusive testing, so all students have the opportunity to participate. Adjustments are available for students with disability. If you would like to discuss adjustments further, please contact Rebecca Edmonds, our Inclusive Education Coordinator.

More information and practice tests can be found at: https://www.nap.edu.au/home

Year 7 Induction Program

This year we introduced a Year 7 Induction Program that spanned across three days.  Students took part in a Library induction, study skills session, team building, photographs, literacy and numeracy testing and an ICT induction. The program wrapped up with the first Year 7 assembly of the year, where students completed the Belridge quiz to see how much they had already learnt about our school community.

Feedback from staff and students was very positive and we hope that it has enabled students to transition seamlessly into high school reducing anxiety and ironing out any potential ICT queries in the first few weeks.

Y7 BBQ / Progress Reports

On Wednesday, 27 March 2024 from 3:30-6:30pm, Year 7 parents will have the opportunity to attend a Welcome BBQ with school staff and meet with your child's teachers regarding how your child has settled into each subject. I would encourage you to take this opportunity to have a face to face meeting with staff from the school who will support your child's academic and pastoral journey throughout their time at Belridge Secondary College.

Details on how to book your parent/interviews appointments will be sent out soon.

Year 7 Immunisations

For those who would like to have their Year 7 student immunisations at school for HPV. Immunisations will be held on Monday, 22 April 2024 during the school day.
