Belridge 5-a-Side Soccer World Cup 2023
This year, the 8 finalists from the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup were the eight teams featured in our end of year 5-a-side Soccer Belridge World Cup.
Each team was quickly claimed by groups of friends writing their names next to a team sheet on the Student Services notice board.
Games began in Week 8, on Monday, 27 November with four sudden death knockout round matches played out by one Year 10 team (France), one Year 9 team (England), three Year 8 teams (Spain, Netherlands and Australia) and one BESC team (Sweden).
Week 9 saw a one-sided semi-final where France demolished the Netherlands 11-0, followed by a much closer match in the second semi -final, with England edging out Australia in the dying seconds to win 4-3.
Wednesday, 13 December saw two epic finals played, with the bronze medal game, held during first break, with Netherlands vs Australia resulting in Australia coming 3rd in the tournament (3-5).
The gold medal game, held during second break, confirmed the dominance of last year’s winners, France, retaining their title with an epic win against England (0-3).
