What a bumper term we have had!

We have been a busy bunch at Belridge Secondary College over the last few weeks with so many special events and activities taking place. At the start of the term our Joondalup Learning Community (JLC) Primary Schools took part in our second Science Week Challenge. This year an Education Support category was included. We were absolutely blown away with the standard on display. Their efforts and engagement in this activity surpassed all our expectations. Projects included Solar Ovens, Kinetic Cars and my personal favourite – Robot Teachers.  I would like to thank my JLC Principal colleagues and staff across all schools for getting on board with this initiative. Congratulations to Joondalup PS for taking away the shield this year.  We can’t wait to do it all again next year.

During Week 4, the College held several Science Week activities for our own students. This included Lego Masters Bridge Building, Laws of flight paper plane competition, Robot Wars Robotic incursion and Super Slime comp.  Students thoroughly enjoyed the week’s events and have provided lots of positive feedback. A big thank you to Mr Crosbie, Ms Howard and Mrs Hall for their efforts.

Week 5 we celebrated Book Week, lots of pirates and wizards about the place with some amazing individual costumes from the students. The photo booth was a huge hit as usual. A big thank you to Ms Baker and her team for their work.

This term we also celebrated EA Appreciation Week with a lovely morning tea.  Our Home Economics team also organised a 3-week Food Hall event for staff through our Hospitality program to provide accreditation to the students for their Certificate course.

Other events we celebrated were Wear it Purple Day, Footy Colours Day and R U OK? Day, along with a special visit form the Minister of Energy and Climate change who provided a forum with our students. Caitlin Collins also visited our student council, providing key learnings around leadership and making a difference in the community.

The Arts have also had an amazing term. Sophie Rohwer (Year 8) was a winner in the annual Wool4School competition coming 3rd in the whole of Australia!

Our Guitar Ensemble received the Excellence Award at the WA Guitar Classical Guitar Ensemble Festival (second highest level award).

We then held our Drama Performance – Ruby Moon, our Dance Showcase – Evolution and finally our Elite Music Concert. All of which were ABSOLUTELY AMAZING. The time, effort and dedication that went into these 3 shows was immense. The performances were mesmerising and really showcased the talent we have here at Belridge Secondary College. A huge thank you to the Arts staff for their support of each of these events.  I know it meant a lot to our students and families.

Week 7 also saw the College hold its annual School Athletics Carnival, please see inside for details on our sporting successes. Again, another show of togetherness and team spirit. A massive thank you to Mr Bennett and the HPE staff for their efforts on the day and in the weeks leading up to the event. Our Year 12s looked fantastic in their costumes and the general turn out and participation was amongst the highest I’ve seen.

Our Open Board meeting is fast approaching on Monday 6 November, please sign up and come along (details on how to register under School Board News). Your ideas and views really do matter and help support the College in making decisions that assist us on our improvement journey.

And finally, good luck to our Year 12s who will be completing their final exams/courses, work placements or VET programs very shortly.  We are looking forward to seeing them at our final breakfast and farewell assembly next term followed by our main event – graduation!

Wishing you all a safe and restful break, see you next term.
