Principal's Message

SHARON-LYON_1 (Small).jpg

As Semester One draws to an end, I would like to take the time to thank the staff and school community for their hard work and support over the last Semester.

As usual it has been a busy term here at Belridge. Our senior school students have worked very hard over the last few weeks completing their Workplace Learning placements and Semester One Exams. I know for many; much preparation has taken place, hopefully they will be rewarded for their efforts with some great results.

Our end of Semester reporting processes have now commenced with access to these being available to parents in Week 10. Our Parent/Teacher interviews will take place during Week 1 in Term 3 which is a change from previous years. Please see Connect for information on how to book interviews, if you are having issues with this, please give us a call.

Our Year 11 2024 subject selection processes also start this term. A parent information evening will be held on Tuesday 27th June to assist with the selection process for parents of current Year 10's. For students who are unsure or just require some general career advice, counselling sessions are available for all students to book across Weeks 1 and 2 next term. Subject selection is a really important decision, as a school we want to ensure our students receive the best possible advice, to place them in the best possible pathway to achieve future success.

During Week 8 this term the College went through the Public-School Review process. This is an external process managed through the DoE which occurs in all public schools every 3 years. During this process the school undertakes a thorough self-assessment of its achievements against “The Standards" providing sample evidence and a written narrative of its workings. The panel then validates the schools claims and helps identify areas for growth. Initial feedback was very positive, the panel were very impressed with all staff and visitors that presented on the day, including our amazing students who talked with them at recess. When the full report is available, I will share key aspects with you. But I would like to take this opportunity to thank all that were involved for their efforts not only on the day, but every day for making Belridge Secondary College the amazing school it is.

There have been some amazing excursions taking place in the Careers space this term as well as success on the sporting field. A massive congratulations to our specialist Netball teachers and students achieving recent success in the Elimination Carnival with 3 of our teams making it to the State Finals (and currently sitting in the top 4 teams in the state). Fingers crossed we come away with the prize at the finals in August!

Next week also sees the return of our P.I.P. (Positive Incentive Program) stalls. Students with P.I.P. points will be able to trade their points for a selection of prizes and rewards. Our High Tea and Pizza & PlayStation have been massive hits with the students. We hope that this motivates them to achieve more points again next term and reap the rewards for their hard work and good behaviour.

The College will also hold its NAIDOC celebrations in Week 1 next term. This will include a free BBQ for students, sample tastings of cultural foods and music and dance performances.

Term 3 also sees the College celebrate Science Week, Book Week and Wear it Purple Day to name but a few. I will be in touch next term to tell you all about them, but for now, enjoy a well-deserved break.

Thank you for your support.
