Principal's Message

SHARON-LYON_1 (Small).jpg

As Semester 1 draws to an end, I would like to take the time to thank the staff and school community for their support over the last Semester. In what has been a difficult and tiring time for all, staff have worked hard to ensure our students are supported and that our educational programs have continued.

Earlier this term the College held its Year 7 Parent Afternoon Tea. This was an informal event, focusing on putting a face to a name and having the opportunity to ask any questions. Big thanks to Rebecca Edmonds and Chadd Richardson for their work with the Year 7 cohort. Both on the day and over the weeks that have followed, we have received some really positive feedback regarding our practice both academically and in the pastoral care space.

This term also sees the start of our subject selection process. This will take place online this year for the first time using the Platform SSO (Subject Selection Online). Over the last year the college has introduced several new courses for our students, with a strong focus on the inclusion of STEM capabilities, ensuring our students are prepared and ready for the careers of the future.

Our Year 11 2023 subject selection process also start this term. This is a very important decision for many of our students, some of whom may need a little guidance. A parent information evening will be held on Tuesday 28 June to assist with the selection process. For students who are unsure or just require some general career advice, counselling sessions are available to book. This is a really important decision as we want to ensure our students are on the best possible pathways for them to achieve individual success.

On the 3rd of June the College was host to our annual Joondalup Learning Community (JLC) Conference Event. This is the time of the year when our network schools can come together and share a full day of professional learning. This year the conference was designed for our Education Assistants and focused on their impact in the classroom. The sessions were planned and delivered by the amazing Natalie Hatton. On behalf of the JLC principals I would like to thank Natalie for her time, passion and commitment in this area. An event like this takes an extraordinary amount of organisation to come to fruition, I would like to thank Emma Smith (Edgewater Primary School) for her leadership in this space along with JLC representatives from our network schools. The day was a fantastic event and has received a wealth of positive feedback from attendees.

There are a few staffing updates that I would like to make you aware of for next Semester. Our new Year 7 2023 Year Coordinator has been selected, congratulations to Alison Zarrop who will start this role next term preparing for our new arrivals in 2023. Lucas Francis has also been successful in fulfilling the role as Year 8 Coordinator for the remainder of 2022 replacing Narae Howard who is on maternity leave.

A reminder that reports will be on their way home via email, they will also be available on Connect (online or download Connect Now App). If you do not receive your child’s report, please contact the College.

I hope you all have a restful school break and get to spend some quality time with family and friends. Term 3 is always a big one, watch this space!

Thank you for your support.
