Career Education is Everyone's Business!

I am very fortunate and excited to have recently been appointed into the newly created position of Belridge Secondary College’s (BSC) Career Practitioner position.
My role will primarily involve supporting all members of the Belridge community; including parents, staff and key stakeholder’s (such as TAFE, WA universities and other training providers) to enable all BSC students (Years 7–12) to develop an individual career pathway plan and successfully transition into tertiary training, apprenticeships, traineeships and/or employment on completion of their secondary studies.

What is the role of a Career Practitioner?

The role of the Career Practitioner includes:

  • Supporting students in developing work readiness skills and bridging the gap between schools and industry;
  • Being a resource for teachers, to promote careers linked to their learning area;
  • Supporting teachers, students and parents to imagine new possibilities and emerging careers so that students can lead productive lives that benefit the global community;
  • Assisting students and parents to become aware of career – related opportunities;
  • To collaborate with the College community so that students can be exposed to a range of exciting and engaging career related experiences;
  • Leading the delivery of career related incursions, excursions and work related experiences.

Essentially my role is to support students, parents and staff; and to be the bridge between school and the constantly changing pathway options available beyond school.

What can I assist students with?

  • Developing a career portfolio;
  • Devising a resume;
  • Providing job sourcing strategies and guidance;
  • Assisting in the development of individual Career Pathway Plans (IPP’s);
  • Applying for scholarships;
  • Providing course counselling and re-counselling;
  • Providing up to date career and job market information.

When can students and parents contact me?

Students can come and see me during recess and lunch time or during form (with permission from their teacher). I will also be available to support Year 11 and 12 students during their Wednesday, period 5 sessions. Alternatively parents and students can phone or email me to discuss any career related queries.

Where am I located?

My office is located in the E Block (between the English office and the front administration building) in the newly created ‘Careers Hub’.
