Meet your Student Councillors for 2022

Welcome everyone to the 2022 school year. I will be taking over the guidance of the Student Council and am thrilled with both the opportunity and the leaders of tomorrow I will be working with. The Belridge student council has already been hard at work over the past few weeks, brainstorming ideas for our college and coming up with some questions for the Principal, Ms Lyon who will sit in the hot seat in the coming weeks and answer some burning questions for the leadership group.

Home Ec Corner

Welcome to Home Economics for 2022.  As part of our sustainability framework "Caring for Country Together", this year we are introducing a Bring Your Own Container policy (BYOC). Students participating in cooking lessons may:

  • Eat your food in class (if time allows)
  • Take your food in your B.Y.O. Container
  • Donate your food to Breakfast Club

To do your part in saving the planet, please get yourself a small reusable food container with reusable cutlery, and remember to bring them to class.

Let's take away the guilt from using take away containers.

Santos Science Experience

On the 11th of January to the 14th, three students (Luke Couston, In Jung, Charlotte Vinson) from Belridge Secondary College had the amazing opportunity to attend the 2022 Santos Science Experience at Edith Cowan University (ECU).

This experience gives students the opportunity to explore the many branches of STEM related careers that ECU has to offer. Whether it be robotics, forensic science, mathematics, cyber security, you name it, ECU has a huge range of options and pathways to pursue your STEM goals and passions.

During our time at ECU, we touched on various interesting areas of STEM and met with many doctors, students and coordinators, each having individual experiences with STEM, such as mathematics, (by Dr J Collins) where we explored the concept of infinity. Chemistry (by Nardia), allowing us to use ECU’s Superlabs. Plus an outdoor field trip to the Gravity Discovery Centre, the crystal caves in Yanchep and a humorous and engaging talk on Nyoongar science presented by Derek.

Students also had the chance to make their own ice-cream out of liquid nitrogen!

In addition to all this, students were also provided with a seminar presented by some of the ECU students, sharing their experiences and journey along with some advice and tips that really inspired our students.

Last but not least, we were also given our own graduation ceremony provided by Michelle Austin, reviewing on our week’s summary, along with a small piano recital by In Jung to forever remember our lovely time at ECU.

Our students had a wonderful time, with expanded knowledge and inspiration for a bright future, but it couldn't have been done without the hard work and preparation from Michelle Austin, ECU, and of course our brilliant teachers at Belridge. Thank you!

Let's have a moment of Science ...

Year 7 Academic Extension Program

Students have experienced a busy start to the year in science. In their first week, students have explored what it means to be a scientist and taken part in building the highest card tower. They have also learned important science skills like observing and measuring in the rainbow experiment. Safety skills have been highlighted and their current challenge is to design a safety t-shirt.

In the second week, Year 7 AEP students learned the importance of safely using a Bunsen burner.  Students have also taken part in making a non-Newtonian fluid, creating Valentine-Slime as part of their topic on the Properties of Matter. They have been experiencing a fun and interesting Science course.

Year 9 ATAR Science

Students in Year 9 have started the Biological Science course. Pictured below is Sophie Olsen and Tiara Udy. They have been constructing a motor neuron as part of their topic on the Nervous System.
