Deputy Principal - Years 7, 8 and 9
I would like to welcome all 195 of the new Year 7 students and their parents/caregivers to the Belridge Secondary College Community along with new students in Years 8-12 who have joined our community this year. It was fantastic to see all students on time, in uniform and excited to get back to school on the first day. It represents what a positive year we can look forward to in 2022.
Active parent/caregiver involvement is paramount to the educational achievement and success of the student. I look forward to establishing and maintaining strong and productive working relationships with all our families to support all students in the Middle school to be successful.
School Dress Code
I have been very impressed to see how smart all students look in their uniforms throughout the day and would encourage all students to maintain this high level of appearance. Also to take pride in themselves and our college community moving forwards.
Cancellation of events
Due to current restrictions we have cancelled the following events:
- Year 7 Parent BYOD evening
- Year 7 BBQ
The College will do all it can to keep the community informed via Connect or the College website and will review arrangements for each event closer to the planned date.
Year 7 Elevate Education Programme
Later in the term all Year 7 students will participate in workshops conducted by Elevate Education. The workshops are titled Study Skills Kick Start and Junior Management Time and are presented by university students. The presenters make the sessions fun, interactive and informative to further assist our students transition to high school once they have learnt their way around the school!
The sessions are followed by a parent’s information session on Tuesday 5th April from 6:00pm-7:00pm where parents will be presented with strategies to how best support their children both academically and socially. Further details will be sent out over the coming weeks.
Year 7 & 10 Immunisations
Immunisation forms were distributed to Year 7 students at the start of the year and were due to be returned to school by Wednesday 9th February if you wished for your child to be immunised. For Year 7, the immunisations are conducted over two (2) sessions on the following dates:
- First session Monday 14 March;
- Second round of immunisations Monday 17 October
Year 10 immunisations will also be conducted on Monday 14 March.
Please note these dates in your diary as there are no catch-up sessions. Students absent on the day will need to get vaccinated through their local doctor.
Year 7 & 9 NAPLAN 2022
NAPLAN is a national literacy and numeracy assessment that students in Years 7 and 9 will sit as online tests in May this year. As students’ progress through their school years, it’s important to check how well they are learning the essential skills of reading, writing and numeracy. NAPLAN is just one aspect of our school’s assessment and reporting process. It doesn’t replace ongoing assessments made by teachers about student performance, but it can provide teachers with additional information about students’ progress.
Students will prepare for these tests in their Mathematics and English classes to become familiar with the format, language and response types used. I would encourage all students to recognise the importance of these tests and ask that parents/caregivers discuss these tests with their child. Information will be sent from the college during Term 1.
