Home Economics
Welcome to Home Economics for 2021. What a great start to the year we have had. Firstly, we must congratulate our Cert II students for their efforts in catering the PAC opening last Monday night. Our students prepared an array of gourmet sandwiches, arancini, quiches and our world famous sausage rolls. The commemorative BSC short bread biscuit was a highlight amongst the guests and the service provided was exceptional.
Our lower school and ESC cooking classes are well underway with some great food coming out of the kitchens daily. Pizza, stir-fries and delicious salads just to name a few. All home economic students must remember to provide their own container to take away what they cook. We compost all of our food scraps daily and want to continue our sustainable efforts by reducing our reliance on single use plastics.
Lastly, we would like to thank our friends at Feed It Forward for their donation of fresh fruit and vegetables. Feed it Forward is a network of people who are devoted to supporting their communities and helping those in need. It is also about protecting our environment and saving so much food from landfill. More than 90% of the food that is intercepted, is delivered to daycares, churches, schools, soup kitchens, shelters and more. Partnering with Second Bite, a charitable organisation aligned with Coles, Feed It Forward now has over 210 volunteers and collects food from 64 different supermarkets across Perth. We really appreciate their support and if you are a business wanting to become a donor partner to this incredible initiative, head to Facebook or email feeditforwardinc@gmail.com

ADF Long Tan Youth Leadership & Teamwork Awards
The ADF Long Tan Youth Leadership and Teamwork awards recognise students who demonstrate leadership and teamwork within both the school and broader community and who display strong values, such as doing one's best, respect for others, and 'mateship', that are integral to Australian society. Participation in the awards is purely voluntary and students are encouraged to submit their own nomination. Winners are selected by our staff selection panel, who carefully consider each nomination.
Congratulations to Aimee Wright who was the Year 10, 2020 award winner. We wish to thank Petty Officer, Tawhi Eru, from the Royal Australian Navy, who travelled all the way from Garden Island to especially present Aimee with her award this week.
