August and September Board Report 

Hello BSC community, just to keep us all on our toes I have reverted back to the written report for this edition.

Starting off with our Open Board Meeting, help in early August. It was again a great night and thanks to all who attended and made the evening possible. There is a continuing trend of parents and Board Members of our Partner Primary Schools attending so that they can gain a working insight into the functioning of our school. To assist in them getting a deeper understanding off what we offer and what we are about at BSC, we provide 5 minute vignettes of different components of our school that are ‘extra curricular’ or community oriented to compliment the academic component of the school – which is always addressed by our Principal. Numbers are growing year by year and it’s a wonderful opportunity to connect with our broader community.

A further opportunity to showcase the school was with the announcement of BSC as being one of the 10 pilot schools involved in the VPP network. VPP, or Virtual Power Plant, is a scheme initiated by Synergy to have schools generate more of their own energy and thus reduce power bills. I’m sure there were a number of financial and environmental factors that played into us being selected, but I would also like to add that BSC is involved in a number of pilot projects with the Education Department and our reputation for innovation and reliability is a very strong one, which often sees BSC having opportunities not available to the wider sector.

Closing on opportunities, there is an opportunity for one of our schools’ parents to fill a vacant position on our School Board. The position is available till May 2021, whereby it becomes an elected process again.
