‘Distancing’ Digital Literacy Learning
Professional Learning took on a whole new look at Belridge during the COVID distancing measures in recent times. Usually, we all congregate in a collegiate manner to learn about ways that we can improve the literacy of our students at Belridge. On the student-free day at the end of May, we simultaneously took part in professional learning in our own offices.
Staff learned how to create digital Word Walls – one of our whole school literacy strategies – through Padlet. Each staff member contributed subject-specific vocabulary to this digital Word Wall. Not only is it educative, highlighting the enormity and importance of vocabulary development for literacy in our high school context, it looks great too. Additionally, staff took part in type-racing challenges through the online website typeracer.com
This platform assists our students to increase their timed writing speeds, whilst also reinforcing sentence level grammar, punctuation, and spelling.
Check out our Physical Education staff battling each other (whilst social-distancing) for typing supremacy!
