Student Excursions
Year 12 Literature Excursion
On Saturday March 2nd, Year 12 Literature students gave up their afternoon and evening to attend a Perth Festival Production of Gatz, presented by the American company Elevator Repair Service. This production was a dramatisation of F. Scott Fitzgerald’s The Great Gatsby where, over the course of eight hours, the writings of Fitzgerald were read and literally came alive with the people on stage. The production was unique in style, presenting students with new ways to see the text and a new appreciation for the words themselves (in addition to the main lead, who, in becoming Nick Carraway, delivered the last ten pages true to every word Fiztgerald himself wrote). While it made for a long afternoon/night, we all came away excited by the experience, ready to find new meaning in the classic text. This experience went far beyond our curriculum, not only breathing life in literature itself, but giving us a whole new way to view both the writing and the world; it was certainly an experience we won’t be forgetting any time soon!
