Immunisations

Year 10 students received their Meningococcal ACWY vaccination on Thursday 8 August. If your child was not vaccinated and you wish them to be vaccinated, this must be arranged through your local GP, as there are no catch up sessions scheduled. The final round of the Year 7 & 8 Gardasil vaccinations will be held on Wednesday 25 September. Please mark this date in your calendar (final week of term 3), as no catch up sessions have been scheduled.

Whole School Assemblies – Semester 2

Last week the Semester 2 whole school assemblies were held to recognise first semester student achievement. Academic, sporting and extra curricula activities were highlighted. It was fantastic to witness such a large number of students receive awards. I always enjoy celebrations like this that highlight the tremendous work our students do in all aspects of their schooling and the results they produce.

New Performing Art Centre – Premier’s Visit

Planning for the new Performing Arts Centre is progressing and current timelines are on schedule. The commissioned architects (Iredale Pedersen Hook) presented an overview of the current planning and design at the Open School Board meeting earlier this month.

Premier Mark McGowan, along with the Honourable Emily Hamilton MLA, visited the school on Tuesday 20 August to view the schematic designs of the new Performing Arts Centre. After a brief tour of both schools, the Premier was extremely impressed with the design layout of the new build, incorporating and remodelling with the existing PAC and site location to ensure maximum exposure within the local community.  The Premier then met with members of both school boards and had an informal discussion regarding the impact the addition of the new Performing Arts Centre will have within the two school and the local community.

Athletics Carnival – Friday 6 September

The pre-carnival events have already started with the big day on Friday 6 September. It has been very encouraging with the number of students participating in the pre carnival events. Friday 6 September should be another fantastic day with the Year 12 students sporting their traditional themed outfit day. Parents/Caregivers are most welcome on the day to spectate and support their child. As a rule, we do not allow school age children/siblings to attend as they should be attending their own school. Parent/Caregiver spectators are asked to sign in through administration and receive a visitor’s badge for the day.
